We are excited to share that next year Coach Matt Walker will be serving as the head coach for Hartfield’s Junior High football team. Coach Walker has an extensive football background having served as the head coach at Canton Academy (2006-2012) and as a coordinator at MRA (2004-2006, 2012-2016). He joined Hartfield’s staff as a member of the varsity program last year. Along with serving as the JH head coach and teaching senior Government and Economics next year, Coach Walker will be in the weight room working with our JH athletes during their PE classes.
Coach Walker is passionate about this opportunity and, along with winning football games, is approaching this season with several goals including: increased participation in the football program from the student body and developing an atmosphere where each player has a great experience as a member of the team.
Coach Walker recently shared about his outlook on the season ahead: “I’m very excited to be moving into the role of leading the Junior High football team. I’m looking forward to establishing and further developing deeper and more meaningful relationships with the young men at Hartfield Academy. These students are about to have more fun than they’ve ever had. We will work hard, but, more importantly, we will have blast doing it!”
Matt has been married to Christy Walker since 2004. Christy has been teaching since 2000 and currently teaches at Germantown High School. They have two daughters, Mary Tristen and Mattie Reagan. The Walker family attends Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland where Matt serves as a deacon.
