At the heart of our Lower School program, is a Biblical worldview curriculum that prepares students to excel academically and spiritually.
Often times, education and the Bible are taught in silos, with the occasional intersection. But at Hartfield, our goal is to integrate Scripture throughout all of our subject areas. Whether students are learning about the Earth’s orbit or the history of America, we teach our students to find God’s big picture throughout their learning.
Our curriculum is rigorous and students who leave our Lower School program are prepared for success in our Middle and High School. Evidence of this is seen in our Lower School students’ Star Reading and Star Math scores, which far surpass age level requirements.
We believe every student has a God-given purpose and we are grateful for the opportunity to walk with you and your child as they discover how they will fulfill it. That’s why teachers at Hartfield are committed to excellence in the classroom, nurturing your child’s strength and weaknesses, and encourage them as they grow academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
Academic Life
Lower School students experience a foundation of reading, mathematics, social studies, science, grammar and writing. Our children receive traditional instruction time along with a variety of learning strategies and activities that engage and excite their curiosity.
In addition to their core academics, our students have a variety of enrichment opportunities throughout the week which include, library, music, art, technology and physical education.
We can't forget about food and fun! Snack time, lunch time, and recess are all important activities at Hartfield and something students look forward to everyday. Students are allowed to bring a snack each day to have during the morning while their teacher reads aloud with them each day. Lunch time is lively time of enjoying food from home or the cafeteria while being allowed to visit with their friends. For recess, students have free time on our wonderful playground where they have access to a variety of activities that allow them the time to have fun and build friendships.

Beyond the Classroom
Field Trips
Fun educational trips are a highlight for our Lower School students. Every grade participates in at least one trip a year!
We offer an exciting Gifted Program, called SOAR, for students in 3rd-5th grade. Every week, these students attend a special class aimed at developing their abstract thinking and problem solving skills.
Service Opportunities
Teaching our students to love and serve others is very important to us. Every year, everyone in our school participates in either a service project or a mission trip.
Our elementary students eat with each other every day in the Cafeteria. Students may pack their own lunch or enjoy one of the options available through our Dining Services.
After School Care
We know many parents rely on after school care, which is why we began our own after school program, right on campus. We offer both Drop-In and Full-Time After School Care. The Drop-In Option allows your child to stay on an as-needed-basis. Our full-time child care program allows you to use our after school care Monday-Friday from 2:20 pm- 6:00 pm.
After School Activites
Beginning in 4th grade, students may participate in our elementary sports programs which involve soccer, football, basketball, and cheer.
Hartfield Academy is fully accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS), the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Southern Association of independent Schools (SAIS).
