Academics

Junior High (7th - 9th)

In Junior High, students are beginning to experience life as independent young teens with more freedoms and choices at their fingertips.  This season for these students is full of extraordinary growth both physically and emotionally where belonging is key to their development.
At Hartfield, our teachers are dedicated to encouraging our students to try new things so they can discover their interests and push into their emerging gifts and abilities to help them answer the big question of “Where do I belong?”

We focus on teaching independent learners and guiding them to begin developing healthy habits to prepare them for High  School. Our teachers are passionate about connecting their personal faith to the subjects they teach to train our young teens to interpret the world through the lens of the Bible.

Academic Life

At Hartfield Academy, we strive to offer a comprehensive educational approach that provides challenging academics within the scope of a biblical worldview. The community fostered between our faculty, parents, students is one that provides a great foundation as our students begin the preparations necessary for being a successful High School student.

Junior High students will develop a standard of personal accountability and responsibility that is combined with engaging academics, servant leadership, and a Christ-centered culture.  Students will be active participants in learning while teachers use a wide variety of collaborative techniques to help our students develop the cognitive skills they need to be successful.

Students in the 7th grade will take core academic classes that are designed to help students begin to use a wide variety of assessments to show mastery of the material.  7th-grade students also have the opportunity to take elective rotation courses that give them an opportunity to try different things and get a sampling of the types of electives that are available in high school. These elective courses are important in helping our students find and grow in their God-given gifts and talents.

8th-grade courses continue to build on the foundations provided in 7th grade.  This is a great opportunity for students to begin taking high school-level courses. Some of the credit courses available to students are Algebra I, Spanish I, Art, Tech Foundations, Theater, and Visual Productions.  The remaining 8th-grade core courses provide the final preparation for students to be successful in high school and are important for placement in high school English, History, and Math. All students in the 8th grade will take Biology and then have an option for math-based or biology-based science courses beginning in the 9th grade.

Students in the 9th grade take a full high school credit course load in all subject areas. Placement in advanced Pre-Comp and Pre-AP classes is possible and determined by testing, final grades from the previous year, and teacher recommendations.  This all-important final year of Junior High will focus on preparing students to begin thinking about what college and career choices they feel led to explore. This is where we really start focusing in on their God-given purpose as it relates to their future endeavors.
