Hartfield Academy Students Participate in the 59th Youth Legislature
In November, several Hartfield Academy students showcased their leadership and advocacy skills at the 59th Youth Legislature in Jackson, MS. Representing Hartfield as senators and representatives, the delegation demonstrated excellence in debating and advocating for their proposed legislation.
The students gained hands-on experience in oral advocacy and the rules of order for debate. Many succeeded in advancing their bills out of committee, ultimately signing two by the Youth Governor. Seniors Ella Burnham and Hannah Babin authored a bill introducing early, in-person voting, while freshmen Ava Rutland and Jax Price proposed a tuition assistance bill for students scoring 27 or above on the ACT.
Outstanding individual achievements included Junior Elliot Dawson earning the Outstanding Senator Award, Senior Ella Burnham receiving the Conference Leadership Award, and Senior Levi Hill being named The Most Outstanding Senator and receiving the Hartfield Delegation Award.
The Hartfield delegation included Hannah Babin, Ella Burnham, Abby Clark, Elliot Dawson, Carlysle Harkins, Levi Hill, Ben Hooks, Paxton McGee, Jarrett Moss, McKenzie Pope, Savannah Woods, Savannah Morton, Jax Price, and Ava Rutland.
