Hartfield’s T1 Class Builds 'Mayflower' Fort to Remember God’s Faithfulness

Mrs. Nowell’s T1 class jumped back in time as they built a fort representing the Mayflower, the ship that carried the Pilgrims in search of religious freedom. As part of their Thanksgiving lesson, Mrs. Nowell opened with Jeremiah 17:7-8, focusing on trusting God—a theme that echoed through the Pilgrims' journey from England to Plymouth Rock.
The lesson covered the Pilgrims' quest for a place to worship God freely, their challenging two-month voyage, and the sickness and discomfort many endured. Through these hardships, they trusted God’s guidance, a lesson Mrs. Nowell tied to the stories of Noah and Moses, two biblical characters who also learned about trusting God during difficult times. Noah trusted God when God told him to build a big boat to save his family and the animals from a flood. Even though it seemed strange, Noah obeyed God because he knew God would keep them safe. Moses trusted God when he led the Israelites out of Egypt. When they reached the Red Sea, God made a way for them to cross by parting the waters.

As the students gathered by their Mayflower fort, they prayed together, thanking God for His faithfulness just as He had shown the Pilgrims. Their prayer was simple but heartfelt: “Dear God, thank you for loving us and always being with us, just like you were with the Pilgrims on the Mayflower. Help us trust you when things are hard. Amen.” During the month of November, they’ll enjoy reading and reflecting in their Mayflower, thankful that we can always trust in God!
