Hartfield 56 demonstrated the true spirit of giving this season by donating an incredible 1,484 pounds of food to benefit the We Will Go Ministry in Jackson, Mississippi. This effort is part of Hartfield’s mission projects, where each grade participates in service initiatives to bless the community.
The idea for the food drive came from the Hartfield 56 administration, but the success of the project was driven by the leadership of three students: Maisy Reed, Landry Little, and Mary Ellis Steed. These girls worked tirelessly to create bright, cheerful boxes for each classroom, design a flyer featuring Proverbs 22:9—“Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor”—and assist Hartfield 56 Principal Mrs. Elliott and Counselor Mrs. Rankin with organizing the effort.
Reflecting on the experience, Mary Ellis shared, “Seeing all the cans collected and packing them into the car was my favorite part. We were able to collect so many cans!” For Maisy, designing the flyer was especially meaningful because of the Bible verse that inspired the donations.
Before Thanksgiving break, the 5th and 6th graders gathered to pray over the donations and the families they would bless, loading up cars to deliver the food to We Will Go Ministry. The project not only filled pantry shelves but also hearts, as the students experienced the joy of generosity firsthand.
Hartfield 56 continues to lead by example, showing how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
